40 year old virgin, The (2005)

Decided to watch this one because Knocked up is great and Superbad is great… so there’s no reason for this one not to be great. This movie has some of same great actors that were in Knocked up, like Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and the chick who played his wife. Steve Carrell proves he can carry a movie and be funny as hell at the same time. Like knocked up, this one had a heart beating underneath its great comedic sketches. The ending was hilarious.

Blades of Glory (2007)

Not until just recently have I rediscovered my love for comedies! And that’s thanks to the amazing actors that are still around making them. I think Will Ferrell is an absolutely hilarious guy and my love (like uhm, love for his acting, I don’t find him pretty or anything :/) for him is steadily growing. This is also the first movie I’ve watched with Jon Heder in it and he’s left a very favorable impression on me. Blades of Glory is just a simple fun movie to watch and absolutely safe, as in very-slightly-offensive-maybe.
Cloverfield (2008)

I watched this in the cinema, which is the only place you should be watching this film. I don’t think it’s quite the same experience when you’re sitting in your living room or in front of the computer. I know it was hyped, and I now know why. I liked this movie for everything it is: a smart, original horror monster story. The camerawork is something to get used too, and something you (kind of) learn to appreciate. The movie was the right amount of compelling, creepy and surprising to make it work. Big respect to J.J. Abrams, here’s a man who tries new things (and succeeds)!
Chronicles of Narnia… With James McAvoy, The (2005)

I don’t really remember the full name, nor do I care at the moment. I just finished watching it like 10 minutes ago, so with the movie still minti-fresh in my memory, let’s start the ranting, shall we? Overall, the movie was quite a letdown for me. Although I wasn’t expecting a magical, glorious, enchanting journey… Oh wait, I was. Well, I was at least expecting to like it. The movie was definitely made this way for a reason, I can see that and I have nothing but respect for the director’s sense of style… but the movie simply didn’t get to me. It was too… distant, with all the weird talking CGI animals killing each other for no reason I can think off. It was a little too extreme to be a kids movie, but not extreme enough for people looking for some action. I had huge issues with the kids; I didn’t like, understand or feel for any of them. Their progression in Narnia seemed so implausible and awkward, that I just felt… awkward watching them. The whole Aslan thing creeped me out, btw. I’m hoping Prince Caspian will be an improvement; Narnia could reach its audience better if it were just a little more inviting and less aloof. The pacing was a bit slow for me, as well. This was my first movie with James McAvoy in it, and I love him already. Is it just me, or does he have one of the coolest names ever?

With all the comedies and occasional dramas, I decided a martial arts movie was what I needed. I heard about this one quite a while ago, and boy what a movie it was! I was very aware that it would be all action, but I was very pleasantly surprised all the same. Economically paced, mad crazy action scenes, ultracool camerawork, some fun actors to watch, and oozing with testosteron and macho style… this movie was a really great action-packed ride. You’ll just have to ignore the story though, because it’s not the reason you’ll be watching this. The movie is French, btw, and I’m starting to love French. <3

Watchable.
Half Nelson (2006)

I decided it was time I watched another Ryan Gosling movie. While watching Breaker High years ago, I would have never guessed that loser Sean would ever become one of the coolest actors of our generation. Indeed, his acting abilities have wowed many and continue to wow as he continues his slew of great (indie) films. Half Nelson was different than I thought it would be. My sister pointed out that the movie showed us a timeframe, not a whole story; she’d describe it as a mood piece. Ryan Gosling was great as Daniel Dunn and the movie was very gripping because of his portrayal and because of the realism instilled in this piece of work. It’s a sad movie, but one that is also very hopeful for its characters. Kudos to the director.
Juno (2007)

Another movie about a pregnancy!? Just kidding, it’s a real sweeeeet gem. There were too many indie reverences and weird quirky words fo me to handle, but it was a very enjoyable, pleasant, funny experience. First movie I’ve seen with Ellen Page and Michael Cera and I loved them both very much. Jennifer Garner turned out to be the sweetest thing ever in this movie and Jason Bateman, I have no idea who you are, but I think you’re a really cool guy.
) Michael Cera, damn, how did he get popular so fast? Paulie Bleeker? Yes! God! He’s so fucking adorable.

A rather odd movie.
Knocked up (2007)

Wow, this movie suprised me. I expected something really hilarious and funny and hilarious. But the movie has a really good heart beating underneath its brilliant comedy. Just try to enjoy/ignore the filthy jokes/scenes and you’ll have an absolutely splendid time. Katherine Heigl was good, Seth Rogen brilliant and the rest of the guys were all hilarious. I’m feeling some affection growing for Paul Rudd, he seems like someone who could totally do something great in a great movie some day. Does that make sense? Anyway, Knocked Up is really funny, eye-opening and kinda sweet.
Pride and Prejudice (2005)

My god. If all romantic movies were like this, I’d watch them more often. I was swooned and swept away. Keira Knightly was great for this movie and her nose-wrinkle is hi-la-ri-ous! The haughty (pronounce: hotty) Mr Darcy was just really, really charming in the-not-so-direct-and-obvious way. I looked him up on the ‘net, apparently his name is Matthew McFadyen or something, and he looks funky (not in a bad way) when he’s not Darcy.
Stardust (2007)

I wasn’t expecting much of this movie, but I’m happy to say I enjoyed it. I think Charlie Cox is on his way up, he did alright in this movie. Loved DeNiro as captain Shakespeare and Michelle Pfeiffer was fabulous as the evil witch. Although not all that compelling and a little predictable, Stardust had the right sense of fun and loveliness that made the movie hard to dislike by anyone. Also, my first encounter with Ben Barnes… He’ll be playing Prince Caspian in the next Narnie movie, so I’ll be looking out for him as well.
Superbad (2007)

After seeing Knocked Up and Juno, I just HAD to see Superbad. It was a long movie, but absolutely friggin’ hilarious! Loved the scene with Michael Cera singing These Eyes by the Guess Who and the ending was just too sweet and too sad. Mad respect to Michael, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and all the other people who were involved in this movie and other movies like it. There’s something really recognizable in this movie and that’s just what makes it so great. I am McLovin!
